Description

Summary of Description:

Develop and oversee the engineering and design efforts for the development of engineering drawings/packages for all phases of a project from the feasibility study to construction.

Duties:

  • Develop electrical specifications, such as generators and motors, power transformers, power circuit breakers, medium and low voltage power distribution equipment (switchgear, MCCs, etc.).
  • Lead effort and direct others in developing drawings for new or modifications of existing power distribution systems, including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Review and checks engineering packages for accuracy and quality, independently.
  • Develop construction scopes of work, front-end engineering and design project scopes and project execution plans, independently.
  • Lead effort and direct others in gathering data from electrical equipment and systems. Conduct field evaluations to support project work involving new and existing power systems.
  • Lead effort and direct others in sizing electrical equipment, cable, cable tray and conduit.
  • Prepare technical bid evaluations, independently.
  • Coordinate electrical heat trace system design.
  • Assist with applying hazardous Area Classification methodology, including determination of classified areas, equipment requirements, etc. Requires limited supervision.
  • Perform electrical system modeling and studies using ETAP, SKM, etc. Able to use field and manufacturer data to build models, independently.
  • Interpret and define project requirements and effectively communicate scope of work to other discipline engineers and designers.
  • Interact directly with client personnel and project managers to discuss project scope, options, recommendations and to request to data required to execute projects.
  • Develop engineering budget estimates and define scope of work for prospective projects.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers.
  • Provide other job-related duties, as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in a related technical field from an accredited University with at least ten (10) years’ experience in industrial, petrochemical, chemical or utility industries or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. 

Must be proficient in the following:

  • Developing electrical specifications, such as generators and motors, power transformers, power circuit breakers, medium low voltage power distribution equipment (switchgear, MCCs, etc.) and mentor junior level engineers.
  • Medium and low voltage power distribution equipment (Switchgear, transformers, MCCs, etc.).
  • MCC, switchgear and other equipment control systems.
  • Interpreting electrical drawings, such as one-lines, three-lines and schematics.
  • Developing drawings for new or modifications of existing power distribution systems including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, schematics and wiring diagrams. Able to check work of other engineers.
  • Reviewing and checking engineering packages for accuracy and quality, independently.
  • Gathering data from electrical equipment and systems. Conduct field evaluations to support project work involving new and existing power systems.
  • Electrical equipment, cable, cable tray and conduit sizing.
  • Developing engineering budget estimates and defining scope of work for prospective projects.

Must be experienced in the following:

  • Developing construction scopes of work, front-end engineering and design project scopes and project execution plans, independently.
  • Preparation of technical bid evaluations, independently.
  • Electrical Heat Trace Systems.
  • Hazardous Area Classification methodology, including determination of classified areas, equipment requirements, etc. Requires limited supervision.
  • Performing electrical system modeling and studies using ETAP, SKM, etc. Able to use field and manufacturer data to build models, independently.
  • Implementing recommended protection settings and generation of protection relay setting files.

Must have the ability to perform the following:

  • Interpret and define project requirements and effectively communicate scope of work to other discipline engineers and designers.
  • Interact directly with client personnel and project managers to discuss project scope, options, recommendations and to request data required to execute projects.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers.

Additional skills:

  • Knowledge of regulatory codes and requirements in the related discipline, required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Software capability: MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PDF Editor software.

License/Certification Requirements:

  • Valid Drivers' License as per State law or requirement.
  • Registered Engineer Intern (E.I.), required. Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.), preferred.
  • TWIC card (or ability to obtain).

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk up to one mile on industrial plant and construction sites outdoors at any time of the year.
  • Ability to work in protective clothing which may elevate body temperature by several degrees Fahrenheit for periods up to 15 minutes without a break.
  • Ability to use multi-level stair towers and rung ladders unassisted.
  • Ability to hear safety alarms and signals while wearing hearing protection.
  • Ability to sit at desk and operate computer for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk and hear.
  • Ability to see with visual acuity and distinguish between colors.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift and carry 15 lbs. on a regular basis is required and at times lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required.
